Expertise
We actively engage in the development of international and Irish tax policy.
We believe it is essential that government tax proposals are carefully drafted and tested before implementation and necessary comments and observations are provided. Accordingly, we participate in Irish tax policy development and contribute to public consultations launched by the Irish Department of Finance on Irish tax matters.
Our partners are members of the tax committees of various industry bodies, including the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland, the International Bar Association, the Irish Funds Industry Association, the Irish Debt Securities Association and the Law Society of Ireland. One of our partners is a member of the Policy & Technical Committee of the Irish Tax Institute, and a Law Society of Ireland representative on several TALC committees. TALC, the Tax Administration Liaison Committee, is comprised of representatives of the Revenue Commissioners, the Irish Tax Institute, the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies – Ireland, and the Law Society of Ireland.
Irish Department of Finance Consultations
Ireland is committed to maintaining a competitive tax system to both retain existing business and attract new business to the country. As the leading law firm tax practice in Ireland, we have a track record of providing commentary on Irish government proposals relating to tax.
We regularly input into technical submissions, including in respect of the annual update of Ireland’s tax legislation (the Finance Act). We also engage in consultations of the Irish government relating to tax. Most notably in recent years, we have participated (and continue to participate) in all aspects of the OECD BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) and the EU ATAD (Anti-Tax Avoidance Directive) consultation processes, as we believe it is essential that government and OECD / EU tax proposals are carefully drafted and tested before implementation and necessary comments and observations are provided.
