Diversity & Inclusion
At Matheson, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where all of our colleagues and their contributions and perspectives are valued and respected. We are committed to embedding diversity and inclusion into everything we do. This is our Cara Commitment.
Our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Commitment honours the memory of our former colleague and friend, Cara O’Hagan. Cara was a mentor and role model who spearheaded many of the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives over the last few years. It is only fitting that our Commitment will honour her and continues to build on the important work she started.
The strategic aims of the Cara Commitment are:
- to attract, retain, develop and empower diverse talent;
- to build diverse and inclusive teams that deliver innovative solutions to our clients and for our business;
- to further embed our core values of Respect, Diversity and Partnership into our culture;
- to partner with our clients and community to contribute to wider diversity and inclusion initiatives; and
- to be recognised as an inclusive workplace where all Matheson employees feel that they belong and can bring their whole self to work.
Diversity is a core value at Matheson and building a diverse and inclusive workplace is a key strategic business priority for the firm. Our Commitment is the roadmap for the firm’s D&I strategy with the initial focus on the core areas of multiculturalism and social mobility; gender; generational; family and working parents; disability and LGBTQ+. The delivery of this strategy is our D&I Promise.
As a result of our clear D&I focus and practices, the firm has already been recognised by the Irish Centre for Diversity and awarded their Investors in Diversity Gold Standard and Investors in Diversity Silver Standard . As the first Irish law firm to receive both awards, this recognises the work that has been achieved at the firm in developing and implementing a people focused D&I strategy.
Our Responsibility
We believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace. Through our diversity and inclusion steering committee and ambassadors, we have representatives from across the firm championing diversity and driving home our Cara Commitment.
Wellbeing and Mental Health
Our Commitment is supported by our Wellbeing and Mental Health Programme. At Matheson, our people are our greatest competitive advantage and supporting their physical and mental wellbeing is a key priority for the firm.
